Samsung Note 7 Discontinued, Samsung ArtPC Pulse, WD SSDs

A big big shout out to nerdgirl for pointing out something very important. i let you down last week… so to try and make up for it, its news time on a tuesday!

Most of you are probably very tired of hearing about the Note 7 saga. And trust me, being a Note 7 owner myself, it’s been rough. But it looks like its finally the end for the Note 7. Samsung is ending the production of the Samsung Note 7. Yup its over. The company issued a press release asking users to power down all original AND replaced Note 7s, and they’ve asked retailers and partners to stop sales and exchanges of the smartphone. I guess it was inevitable when some replacement units started to catch fire as well. Strangely enough, at the time of writing this script there have been no reports of problems in Canada, but Samsung Canada is working with Health Canada to resolve the situation. Details of remedies for Canadian consumers will be announced shortly and will apparently include a refund for the device. Even Oculus is removing support for the Note7 on the GearVR. Well that’s just great. I literally just got my replacement on Thursday after almost a month of waiting. Now I have to go phone shopping again. Ridiculous.

But in other Samsung news, samsung is looking to release a new desktop PC called the ARTpC Pulse. Now they havent officially laucnhed yet, but thanks to a leaked Amazon listing, we now have a pretty good idea of what it looks like and some of the specs. The ArtPC has a cylindrical metal unibody reminiscent of Apple’s mac Pro, but the ArtPC has a built in harmon Kardon speaker on top. It comes in either an i5 or i7 configuration with a 256gb ssd, 8 or 16gb of ram, a 1tb hard drive for the i7 version and has a 2GB Radeon RX 460 for graphics. Ports include 4 usb ports, one headphone jack, one type C port, ethernet, hdmi, and an SD card reader. Current pricing for the i5 and i7 on Amazon’s listing is 1200 and 1600 dollars respectively. There isn’t an official Samsung announcement yet for the ArtPC but if the Amazon listing is correct, we should hear more by the end of the month.

Its been almost half a year since Western Digital bought Sandisk, but now WD is launching their own SSD’s simply named WD Green and WD Blue. For the WD green SSD’s they will offer value and baseline performance. These will be available in 120 and 240 gb capacities. WD Blue SSD’s on the other hand offer a bit better performance and have capacities at 250, 500 and 1 terabyte. Both Green and blue ssd’s will come in 2.5in and m.2 form factors. They will also come with a standard 3 year warranty.

Its time for lightning round!

The 2017 Mercedes Benz S550 hybrid sedan will now have the option of wireless charging thanks to Qualcomm’s Halo charging tech. No price has been revealed, but its you’re buying a car that starts at 100K the wireless option shouldn’t be a problem for all them ballers out there.

For the next update coming in December, Chrome 55 will lower its RAM consumption by up to 50 percent.

Photos have leaked of the “Halfbeak” smartwatch, a collab between HTC and Underarmour.

Overwatches new seasonal event, Halloween Terror, is starting and now theres more than 100 halloween themed sprays, skins, icons, intros and more. Does anyone else think that the new Dr. Junkenstein skin for Junkrat kinda looks like Rick, from Rick and Morty?

And Seagate announced a new 2tb SSHD called the Firecuda. Its supposed to be the fastest, thinnest and lightest hard drive on the market today.
