More Switch Details, Windows 10 Creators Update, Net Neutrality in Trouble

Yo yo yo, we’re gonna get to the tech news, but listen to this drop real quick… …. Oooh maaan! Crazy, right!? Haha. Ok.

More details about the Nintendo Switch are steadily coming out, and I’m sad to say they’re starting to make the console look worse and worse. In an interview with Gamespot, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said that the companion phone app for the Switch would be used for more than just voice chat, as has been previously announced. The app will also be used for online matchmaking. Through your phone. For playing multiplayer on your console… Ok – The Switch will also not have any video streaming services available at launch, like Netflix or Hulu. Although they’re thinking about adding that later. Well, I certainly hope so! I want to believe, Nintendo. I just want to believe that… you’re not totally stupid. Because the Switch looks cool! I want it to be good. That’s all.

Some features of the Windows 10 Creators Update are rolling out to Windows 10 Insiders, but it’s not all rainbows and gumdrops. It almost never is. One of the “features” are new pop-up ads that appear above your Chrome browser icon, if you have it installed, telling you to install Microsoft’s Personal Shopping Assistant for Chrome so you can quickly compare prices online. Well, gee, I didn’t know about that, thanks, Microsoft! What a handy feature. I mean are there not enough pop-ups on the web without us having to deal with them just on our desktop? Shame. But one of the cool features of the Creators Update is a new battery to power slider, where you can decide how much you want your PC to favor power efficiency or performance. So that’s cool. I guess.

Alright, with all the inauguration stuff going on, I had to talk about SOMETHING slightly topical related to it, I mean it’s about Net Neutrality. Remember that? Remember how cool Tom Wheeler was, we all thought he was a corporate puppet but then he turned into a big net neutrality advocate? Well, he’s now left the FCC, and industry sources have now told Politico that current FCC member Ajit Pai will replace him. Pai is a staunch opponent of net neutrality rules and argued that as chairman, Wheeler used power that the FCC is not supposed to have. So looks like the net neutrality rules so beloved by.. most of the tech industry, anyways, are likely to be either reversed or severely crippled. On the plus side, I can’t wait to buy that premium video subscription site package for only 40 bucks more per month. It’s a good deal, considering.

Asus has had enough of Raspberry Pi dominating the tiny computer board market, so they made their own, called the ASUS 90MB0QY1-M0EAY0 Tinker Board. Not as catchy as the Pi, but it’s supposedly got a bit more power, for a bit more cash, at $57 US.

If you’re a real time strategy fan, you can try out Halo Wars 2 on PC and Xbox One right now, as the open beta has just launched. Apparently, the game isn’t too bad to play with a controller, but… you know the right thing to do.

AOC is doing what it does best, releasing competitively priced monitors, with the new Agon AG352UCG, a curved 35-inch, 3440 by 1440 ultrawide with G-Sync and-and a 100Hz refresh rate for ONLY a thousand bucks the US. It’s kind of sad that that’s a competitive price for this type of thing.

And Socratic, a homework helping app, has been updated with a new ability: take a picture of a math question, and the app will not only solve it, but it will show you how the solution works. Now, sure you could use this to just cheat, but really, once you cheat, you know how to not cheat next time, so is that really cheating? Lemme know. Later.
