Zenimax successfully sued Oculus over the development of VR tech and was awarded a 500 million dollar judgement. Now for more people, 500 mill would be enough, but nope! Zenimax has now turned their focus onto suing Samsung. Yes, in a lawsuit filed last week, Zenimax says that samsung’s headset, the gear vr, benefited from technology that was misappropriated by Oculus. I mean, it wasn’t a secret that the gear VR was advertised as “powered by oculus”. Zenimax is accusing the korean tech giant of continuing to develope the headset despite knowing about the lawsuit against oculus. Zenimax also claims that John Carmack came up with the idea of mobile VR when Carmack was still working for id Software. Zenimax’s new lawsuit is seeking royalties, damages and profits from the sales of infringing works and use of trade secrets.
We covered the HTC u11 leak yesterday and today, HTC officially announced their next flagship the U11. Other than the snapdragon 835 chipset and 3000mah battery and 1440P display, it offers two other features. The first being “squeeze for brilliance”, meaning that the sides of the phone is squeezable, allowing the user to map the squeeze to a specific function, like taking video or a selfie. The second feature is that the U11 has support for both the google assistant AND Amazon Alexa. Yeah…. Mind blowing stuff. HTC is calling it the “dual wake word system” This feature won’t be available at launch, but it’s coming soon. I’m not totally sure how HTC got google and amazon’s permission to do this but it will be interesting to see if you would use either system equally day to day or if you would heavily favor one over the other. The HTC u11 is launching in the UK first for 650 pounds in June and the US launch will follow later on, also priced at $650. What do you guys think about a squeezing function or the dual digital assistant feature? Leave a comment down below.
And in bizarre bitcoin ransom news, hackers have somehow gotten their hands on a Disney film and are demanding that a ransom be paid by Disney with bitcoin. Disney CEO Bob Iger said the hackers demanded that a huge sum be paid in Bitcoin. They said they would release five minutes of the film at first, and then in 20-minute chunks until their financial demands are met. According to multiple sources, the film being ransomed is none other than pirates of the Caribbean, dead men tell no tales. Looks like Disney is deciding not to pay up. This is so stupid. OF course, Disney isn’t going to pay, the world premiere already took place last week in shanghai and the movie is coming out next week. If you were going to hold a movie for ransom at least make it an interesting Disney movie… like spiderman homecoming. Does anyone even care about this new pirates movie? And who still has bitcoins?
It’s time for bem bem bem lightning round.
Some highly detailed cad files of what appears to be the iPhone 8 has landed in the lap of Engadget. They say that it’s from a reliable source from the accessory industry. I hope that these are fake, cuz that’s a stupidly large camera bump. I don’t care if it’s a 50megapixel camera, its still a massive bump.
Glympse, a location sharing app is coming to Samsung TVs where you can track things like where the pizza delivery person is. So like… Netflix and track your kids, cuz they’re up to no good.
